When I was a little girl, I often look at the women around me with awe as they pranced around in their heels in a seemingly dancing motion affirmed by the light swish of the fabric of their attires.
It was such a beautiful sight.
I can't wait to grow up.
I am sure that we have all been through those days; secretly trying on dresses larger than ours and slipping our feet into stilettos where our toes would slide all the way to the front; looking ridiculously out of this world.
Then there are those who would put on their mother's lipstick and make up, depending on a tiny stool or chair to even clamber up to reach the dressing table.
Little girls who just dream of the day when they would finally grow up and enter the world of womanhood.
Of course we all know that day would eventually come because that is part of the biological cycle and just the way the world works.
But womanhood is not just about pointy stilettos and high heels, nor expensive gowns and lacy frocks.
It is far beyond that.
Women were seen as the weaker sex from the early days since human existed.
Perhaps it was the perception on their physical build and strength, they were delegated to the confines of home while the men were responsible for the external labor and in being the overall pillar of support.
It was probably the way it was like back then; taking into consideration the environment, the availability of resources and generally the circumstances surrounding the primitive way our ancestors had to live.
A woman is often perceived by her gentle and soft spoken ways; and the need for protection or shelter from harm from the world out there.
It is nothing wrong or right.
But a Woman is still far much more than what meets the eye.
It is not the structure of her body nor the physical attributes on her face, but rather, what lies far beneath the very core of her soul.
Her silence when she is told not to speak
Her faith when she believes
Her love when she cares
Her tears when she hurts
Her longing when she waits
You can see it in her eyes
She will not tell you all
She gives her heart to the ones she love
She surrenders her soul for the lives of her family
She fights with her might for the safety of her little ones
She toils to no end for the comfort and happiness of all around her
She makes you smile when you are down
She cries with you when you despair
She puts on a front to keep you from worry
She harbors anxiety when you are uneasy
She will defy her rights and even herself when she decides on you
She will swallow her pride and be meek when she cares
She will be your all when she loves
She will never let you down
She will bear the pain of childbirth
She will tolerate the kitchen burns
She will hide the scars on her hands
The same way she conceals her fears
A woman is not fearless either
She has fears way beyond those that has been made commonly known
She fears the dark alleys
She fears walking alone
She fears boarding a crowded bus
She fears making friends with a stranger
She fears leaving work late
She fears leaving her home too early
She fears driving alone late at night
She fears riding in someone else's car
She fears getting into the elevator
She fears trying on clothes in the fitting room
She fears being stopped on the road
She fears being left all alone in the dark
She fears her world is not as she believed
She fears her loved ones' abandoning her
She fears her children disappointing her
She fears her parents disapproving in her
But most of all, she fears she Fails everyone she loves.
A woman would cry alone when no one's looking
Lie to the world when everyone's judging
Make her loved ones proud when the whole world's watching
That's what a Woman is all about, and much, much more.
There is no end to this list.
It is not about her flaws, nor is it about her perfections
It is not about her beauty, nor is it about her impurities
It is not about her fears, nor is it about her perceptions
It is about the way she is; and that strength to overcome it all
Whatever comes her way
That makes her a WOMAN
There is no weak woman in this world, when they withstand and bear witnesses to all the storm and calm
Even the smallest and softest woman you know, is stronger than what they really appear to be.
Every Woman is Beautiful as they are Strong
Every Single one.
Women are truly one of the greatest gifts to this world.
Amidst all the good, bad and ugly
All the fears and insecurities
All the joy and misery
There is nothing that says more than being a Woman
I am certainly Proud to be One.
To ALL the WOMEN, always remember that you are the BEST and that you deserve your worth.
Enjoy this day dedicated to you; for YOU are Strong and YOU are truly Beautiful.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN's DAY!
