"I Have A Dream"

Famously remembered as one of Martin Luther King Jr.'s quotes in his most memorable speech.

Or perhaps the rhythmic hit from the popular record-winning singing band sensation, ABBA (or perhaps some may be more familiar with the reproduced version sung by the teenage boy band, A-Teen).

Whichever it was, that relates.

It is not a quote which is so unique, nor out of this world either, yet it has such a profound impact to be remembered by everyone as having been said or sung in some sense.

It is not really a copyrighted quote, for while it is popularized by the ones mentioned above, it is totally relatable and just hits home ground with each and every one of us.

I Have a Dream...

Now who has never said this before, at one point or another in their life?
Perhaps, even multiples times.

I Have a Dream.

We all have a dream, or dreams, if you may.

We dream of having things we yearn for, being somebody we pictured, going to places we longed for and standing in places we envisioned.

We all have those dreams, and in this context, I am not talking about those where you see them when you are sleeping.

Ambitions, aspirations, visions, life goals, your ultimate destiny, calling, or whatever you call it.

We all have them.

I believe I started having dreams since I was a little girl, and I am sure it is the same for everyone.
Dreams come at a young age, since it was then when our teachers and parents tell us about aiming high or even posing that million-dollar question that kind of sets it in our minds.

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Some kids would probably say, "I don't know", while there are those who are just so sure of themselves and start prattling on who they see themselves in a few decades down the road.
These would probably be the same kids who could not even wait to grow up, to see the realization of their dreams and that day when everything comes into place.
Just as they pictured.

Even if you did not know at that time, you would probably start to think, 
"Yeah, What DO I want to be when I grow up?"

What is MY Dream?

I belonged to the latter category, the ones who just knew what they want to do, who they want to be when they grow up.
I can't wait to grow up
I can't wait to see them coming to form, and I just want to smile when they all do.

I have more than just a dream, I have dreams.
They come in plural, simply because, I am a dreamer.

I believed in myself; I knew what I want, and I even think of how I want to get to what I want.

Pretty big-headed for a kid, though it was in a way, good to have such aspirations at a young age.

My Dad encouraged that, and always told me that everything is impossible, if only I believed and put my heart and soul into it.

It is just like that for a kid, everything seems bright and hopeful, and the road just seems so clear and smooth.
No roadblocks, no disturbances, nothing.
We see the end, and we see the clear path all the way.

Needless to say, we all go through challenges, the trials and tribulations, the ups and downs in life.
We fall, we stumble, we cry, we despair, we lose hope and sometimes, we just give up.

I am going to be honest here too, I have lost my directions before too and somehow along the path, I just ended up at crossroads, fork junctions, creaking roadsigns and then I just went on a different path.
Or paths, altogether.

It is funny, when I look at it, and if you ask me now, I would say, I have no idea how it happened, why, and what made me go a different way.

It is not a bad path, but just, it was a path that was really distant from the one I originally envisioned.

It was more than just one path, multiple paths which just kept pulling me farther and farther, away from what was originally my dream.

Soon, life took over, I lived, breathed and treaded on that path, without any recollection of that original dream (or dreams).
Living the path made me feel so accustomed and to a certain extent, comfortable, that it is no surprise that I would want to settle in it; the way your back finds that perfect spot on the couch and you sink deeper into it to relax.

It became that comfort zone, though at the same time, danger zone.

I don't know how, or when, or why or what prompted that question again, out of the blue.

My Dream.

What happened to it?

It became a question mark, as I realized that those dreams, my dreams, were actually thrown so much into the background that they have become lost memories.
They have faded into an almost non-existence.

Of course, I could choose not to care, since everything works fine, and I could just keep it that way.
Yet at the same time, there is just that nagging voice that kept saying, 
"Why, and what happened to the dreams I had?"

Am I going to just give up on all of them?

I am not sure if you can relate to this, but I think there are some of us (if not most) who would just be bugged by that feeling and annoying voice someday or at one point in their lives, that they are not sure what they want.

You don't have to say it out loud, and most people don't because, well, we are living in a very judgmental society after all.

However, deep down inside, you know it best.

We know ourselves best.
We know what we truly want, we know if this is what we truly want.

We just don't say it.
We DON'T DARE to say it.

And not for long, we kept those dreams quiet, pushing them back to make way for the realities we thought are better, and they are once again, hushed, muted and faded all the way into the background.

Then they will be forgotten again.

Until someday, someone asks, "What is your dream?"
Or perhaps, "What WAS your dream?"

It could even be yourself, looking at the mirror one fine day

"I HAD a dream, what WAS it?"
"Am I living my dream today?"
"Did I achieve the dream I had once upon a time?"
"Is THIS my dream?"

If not, WHY?
What happened to that dream?

Think about the dreams we had, think about why we gave up on them.
Think about why we have forgotten them.
Have we truly forgotten them, or we are just not brave enough to pursue them?

We don't want to look back someday, and say, "I never lived my dream"

Nobody told us not to, the choice is ours to make and the road is ours to take.

If you are fine with it, be it then.

But if you are not, make haste and pave that way to the dream.
Search your soul and find that answer.

Only we ourselves know.

Don't leave it till the last dying breath, and regret is the only one that's left.

Make your heart Happy.
