HOPE: The Beginning

By Christina Kim - April 12, 2020

I woke up early this morning (as usual) and I waited as the day slowly breaks in and I was not disappointed as I was treated to this majestic sky.
I have always looked forward to the beginning of the day (I have always loved sunrises, well, sunsets too) as it is always my favourite part of the day, which is why I always liked (loved, to be exact) to be early.
The beginning of the day brings that feeling of freshness and of a new beginning which is just so exciting, so what is there not to look forward to?
On top of that, today is the celebration of Easter for Christians worldwide, where we celebrate the joyous occasion of the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death on Good Friday. It also marks the end of the 40-days of fasting and abstinence during the Lent season in preparation for this joyful event.
In fact, Easter is not just one of the most important events in the Christian calendar, but it is the most important celebration in the entire calendar. It is the very foundation of Christianity itself. The rising from the dead proves that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that there is a life everlasting. In short, it is a representation of miracle, hope and the existence of God. It is what Christianity is all about hence it is the founding stone of the whole religion.

It is a celebration of rebirth, new life, a miraculous event, a new beginning but most of all of Hope. It is a celebration of Life, Love and Hope which lies in the event of the resurrection of Christy after he was crucified and died on the cross. This is what Christians strongly believe in as it represents one thing: Hope.
Over the years, there have been numerous, even countless attempts to debunk this, to prove that it is not true, that Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead, that he was not the Son of God by locating his grave, or that it was not his tomb, etc. However, why, even in the wake of science and logical theories, the Christian population still continue to believe and celebrate this event?
Are we blind or dumb?
No, believing when not seeing is what religion is all about and it is all about FAITH.
So this is what I am trying to talk about here, Faith and Hope.

It is when you don't see anything yet believe.
You believe that something good will happen (Faith), then you also pray that it will happen (Hope), waiting for a miracle.
It is this very sentiment that keeps us humans going on, taking the religion aside.
You don't have to be Christian to believe in miracles, and especially in Faith and Hope.
It is just there, innate ability that we all have. We are born with it.
How many times have we believed that when we work hard, we will not be disappointed?
How many times when your parent tells you something without proving it, but you did not question? How many times have your friend told you a story about something he/she encountered and you do not raise doubt over the authenticity of his/her story?
You may have been a skeptic your whole life, you probably do, but do you really question every single thing, no matter how extremely skeptical you are?
Do you question your doctor?
Do you question your teacher?
Do you question the chef when you eat at a restaurant?
Do you question your mechanic?
Do you question your local grocer?
Do you question your mother on whether she really gave birth to you?
Do you question if an ant is really an ant?
The list goes on.

No, there are some things we just choose to believe in, even the extreme skeptics.
That, is faith.
Then we anticipate the best of everything, even if you do not think about it. It is just a subconscious thing.
You do not wake up and wonder if something bad is going to happen today.
You do not go to work and think you may get the sack today.
You do not see a doctor and think you are going to and will die, even if you are just having an injury in your finger.
You do not eat something and expect to choke on it or get food poisoning.
No, you just do not think about it because you just go with the natural flow of things.
You just let things take its own course, and you feel that nothing would nor should go wrong.
Sometimes you even wished you would get lucky in certain events.
Whether or not you wished or hoped for something, you are still having that hope that things will just go naturally.

You think of someone dear to you and you think they are well somewhere. You are already having that hope because you cannot see them immediately but you think they will be well. You do not think ill of them. You are actually wishing them well.
That, is Hope.
You finish your work and submit it to your boss, you do not wish to redo it.
You are hoping you do not have to, again, Hope.

Faith and hope just exists in us, and it would not be an overstatement to say that it is the very foundation of humanity or even Life itself, for even animals and plants thrive on that to keep themselves alive.

In times of trouble like our existing crisis that we are all facing together, it is essential to awaken this very spirit of faith and hope to keep us going, if not stronger.
We cannot see where this is heading to, but we are holding onto the faith that things will get better soon. In fact, we HOPE it will be better soon and that we can all go back to normal.
We believe in the doctors, the medical researchers and the authorities that they will figure out the solution to end all this. We believe in keeping our distances from each other and keeping ourselves confined at home to avoid catching the virus. We hope that there will be no more deaths around the world.
We are all not sure of what is going to happen next but yet we are still holding on, living, keeping our lives going as usual despite the unusual situation. We did not, will not, should not and MUST NOT give up. We must believe that things will be get better, that this will be OVER.

We are hoping for a fresh start once we are back to our normal, we want this to end and that new beginning to dawn upon us.
You need not be a Christian to believe, so just take the anecdote of the sunrise.
Keep that faith and hope alive, just like how naturally the night would always turn into light, without fail every single day.
We do not and have never stayed in the darkness of the night forever, we still see light as the night passes.
The darkness disappears and light will appear, just like how clouds will also move away after the rain and the clear skies come into place.

We do not need to see to know that as these naturally just take place, as nature goes.

So, keep on believing, keep that faith, be positive and HOPE will come alive, as it always is, whether it is visible or not.

Stay safe and Positive my dear friends and everyone reading this!

Also, a blessed Easter to all my Christian friends and readers, may we rejoice in the risen Lord, Alleluia!~
