New Year, New Beginnings

So, I woke up today, and voila, we are already in 2017.

Where did the year 2016 go?

I will say this again and again, that it just seemed like yesterday when 2016 has just arrived and then suddenly, we are at the starting point of another year again.
It is all just too bizarre.
I am not sure about you, but is it only me who felt like 2016 (particularly) just went by as though it was on lightning speed?

At the same time, there were also rumors that 2016 was a year that should have ended a little sooner, for it was one filled with events which no one would ever want to make a point in history.
(Think of the tragedies which have taken place and made it to the headlines last year)

Again, it is just that dilemma of wanting the year to end yet feeling that the year went by too fast.

We humans are indeed an indecisive and confusing lot.

Anyway, back to the whole entire NEW YEAR thingy and since we are just in our 3rd day of 2017, I bet many are still in that daze from the smashing celebrations on New Year's eve and dragging their sorry behinds to work (and school).
Oh yes, school starts today too.

As for me, I think I have taken a long break from my blog since last year, and it is time for me to come back and just share my thoughts and even crazy adventures in life.

New Year Resolution? Perhaps, perhaps not.

As usual, when it comes to the New Year, somehow everyone would just be quick to reset almost everything; from one's resolutions to image and well, pretty much giving life itself a new breath.
It is just automatic that everyone (almost everyone) would jump at the chance to just leave the past behind and look forward to the future; as in throw everything away, erase them as though they never happen and just embark on the new reset path.

Of course, that is never a bad thing, for that is after all, the reason for our eyes being in front of us rather than at the back of our heads; for we are always meant to look forward.

However, is the past really all that bad that it truly deserves to be forgotten?

Be it a pleasant or unpleasant one.

The past is what makes us look forward to the future; the good, the bad and the ugly.

Everything that has happened to us, is what shaped us into who we are and set that standard for our mindset.
It is what changes our perspectives and views of life and everything in general.

If we had never bumped into the wall, how would we know the wall is hard?
If we had never tasted lemon, how would it know the extent of its sourness?
Just saying.

Everything that we encountered; whether it left a smile or a tear in our eye, or even that aching pain in the heart when we think about it, made up that part of us and made it possible for us to look forward to what is coming next.

We may not like everything that has happened, but we can't ever expect that everything will be a sweet and rosy path.

It is the exact same way with that bright and cheerful future we are currently looking at from this very spot.
No one can tell what the future holds.
No one can see if it is all going to be florals and spring.
No one can predict if they are going to get hurt.
No one can avoid if something undesirable were to happen.

No, no one, and nothing is for sure.

We can only hope.

I am not here to dampen your spirit by pouring that bucket of cold water over your head on the first few days of New Year, but I am bringing that thought into the perspective of embracing the New Year.

New Year doesn't mean the past is over, nor the New Year is like this giant eraser which will just erase the year before.

Of course, the New Year is always filled with hope and that vision of new beginnings, but at the same time, don't forget the past.

It may contradict with some saying that you should let go of the past, but it is in no way the same context.

Sure, you can let go of the weight which has been holding you down; put down that sack if it is holding you back that you are unable to move forward, but remember that lesson you learnt.

The New Year is definitely full of HOPE, for it is also the past incorporated which sets us in motion to move forward to that next chapter.

Set your resolutions with that in mind, and learn from the past, change what did not work in the past and do not be afraid to try to experiment moving forward, even if you are scared.
Fear is what holds us back (that will be for another post, I suppose).

No matter the New Year resolutions you set, it is always and definitely for a "Better Me" this year.

Well, make it happen, embrace the past, be proud we have made it through and make this year one worth in our life's history, that someday, when we look back, we can truly smile that we have made the year ourselves.

That, will be the greatest resolution for one's life, not just the New Year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017 everyone, and to great new beginnings!~
