The Pursuit of Happiness

Everyone wants to be happy, and there is no reason not to want that.

Happiness, is defined as a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.

It is a state of delirium and one would feel like they are on top of the world, or metaphorically speaking; on cloud nine.

Everyone has a different definition of happiness; pertaining to their own perspectives and experiences in life, apart from the dictionary or textbook given meaning to the word.

It could be a state, it could be an end result, or simply it could mean that spur of a moment, or that desired period where one feels best in their emotions.
There is no definite meaning to the context of the word, as viewed by the many minds, hearts and eyes in the world.

Happiness is highly regarded that it is viewed as the goal, that everyone aims to achieve.

It is the reason for the many paths and decisions one make, in order to reach that ultimate goal; to be happy and to bring happiness to the ones around them.

We study hard to make sure we excel in our academics; reaping the straight As which would make us proud and happy (and put that smile on our parents’ faces).
We work hard to do well at work, hoping for that promotion which would make us feel successful, and leading us closer to that ideal/better lifestyle we are looking for.

We believe in the happiness that prevails, if we persevere.
We believe that by achieving all the things we aim for, we will end up being happy.

That, to us, is the ultimate happiness we are all looking for.

Is that truly, the real Happiness?

We think that by getting the top spot in school, we will be happy.
We think that by getting the job we want, we are successful.
We think that finally being able to move into that dream home, we will be jumping with joy.
We think that being able to go on that vacation we wanted, we will be over the moon.

We think, that, THAT is what we want.
That is what makes us happy.

But is that truly it?

Or so, as we think?

Sure, we will be happy when we reach that goal which we have set our eyes upon, and it is definitely worth celebrating over.

But perhaps, just that moment when we tasted that success, or being able to accomplish something we want.

It is definitely not the end; that Happiness is just for that moment.

For we will then set out to decide on the next level of happiness; that if we can do this, we can do better.

Perhaps it was originally supposed to be the end goal, but once it is reached, it did not seem that appealing anymore.
It did not seem to bring much more happiness than what we originally thought.

We then set out for the next goal.

It is the norm for everyone, and definitely is just what any one of us would do.

It all lies in the mind.

It is what we tell ourselves; that, I will be happy when I achieve that.

It is good and of course encouraged to always set higher goals and better standards as we progress through our lives, but what truly defines the End?

What is the true meaning of Happiness?

We will keep on pursuing the many things in our life, that we think, will make us happy.
We focus on that end goal, or so we think, yet when it finally comes, we smile and move on again.

We think that no, that’s not it, I need more.

I need more to make me happy.

So, when will we ever truly, and really feel HAPPY?
Or are we totally lost in that never ending pursuit of happiness, which seems to shift in its meaning every single time?

Do we stop to look at what we have come through and just make that decision to BE Happy?

Or have we even lost ourselves, as we constantly pursue that meaning of happiness?

Is Happiness really defined by success or just being to own everything?

Stop, and imagine, one day you have everything you want, and can do anything you wish, will you be really Happy?
Is there nothing else you want more?

It is good to be ambitious, but don’t let it consume you.
It is good to always aim for something in life, but don’t let it distract you from what is truly important in life.
It is good to always want to progress and do better, but don’t let your own self drift and get lost in the process.

Happiness is truly, a state of mind, and up to one’s own definition, but Happiness is definitely more than just that.

We can choose to be happy, we can choose to relish every moment even if it has nothing to do with our goal.

Focus on what we have today; at this very moment, and be Happy.
Be content, be grateful, for there is happiness in even the most minute thing every single day.

Everything could spell happiness, you just need to recognize it.

Be Happy, I am telling you to and now, let's just do that Happy dance~
